Headache/Migraine

Physiotherapy can be a helpful treatment approach for headaches and migraines. Here are some ways that physiotherapy may be used to manage these conditions:

  1. Manual therapy: This type of physiotherapy involves hands-on techniques to manipulate soft tissues and joints in the head, neck, and upper back. Manual therapy can help to improve blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and decrease pain.
  2. Exercise therapy: Physiotherapists can prescribe exercises to strengthen and stretch the muscles of the neck, shoulders, and upper back. These exercises can help to improve posture and reduce tension in the muscles that contribute to headaches and migraines.
  3. Education and advice: Physiotherapists can provide education about the causes of headaches and migraines and advise patients on lifestyle modifications, such as ergonomics, stress reduction, and relaxation techniques, that can help to reduce the frequency and severity of headaches.
  4. Acupuncture: Some or our physiotherapists are trained in acupuncture and may use this technique to stimulate specific points on the body to relieve pain and reduce tension.

It is important to note that the effectiveness of physiotherapy for headaches and migraines may vary depending on the underlying cause of the condition. A thorough evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional is essential to determine the most appropriate treatment approach for each individual.

Foot Pain and Ankle pain

Foot and ankle pain is a common problem for sportspeople, particularly those who participate in high-impact activities such as running, jumping, and team sports. Sprains and strains, Achilles tendonitis and Stress fractures are some of the common injuries we see.

However, young adults can also experience foot and ankle pain from developmental conditions.

Certain patients may also be prone to conditions such as Plantar fasciitis and metatarsalgia.

Our physiotherapists, in conjunction with treatment, may use tape or a brace to help support the foot and ankle and prevent further injury during sports activities. If required referral to our in-house podiatrist maybe necessary for a more detailed biomechanics assessment and orthotic prescription.

Workstation and occupational related pain

Musculoskeletal pain is a common health issue in the workplace, especially for those who spend extended periods sitting in front of a computer or engaging in repetitive tasks. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) refer to a range of conditions that affect the muscles, tendons, nerves, and other soft tissues in the body. MSDs can cause pain, discomfort, and loss of function, which can lead to absenteeism, reduced productivity, and increased healthcare costs.

Common MSDs related to the workplace include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis, tennis elbow, trigger finger, and lower back pain. The causes of these conditions can vary, but they are often related to poor workstation setup, repetitive motions, awkward postures, and prolonged sitting or standing.

A workplace DSE (Display Screen Equipment) assessment is a process that involves identifying potential risks associated with the use of display screen equipment, such as computer monitors, laptops, and tablets, in the workplace. The purpose of a DSE assessment is to ensure that the working environment is ergonomically designed, and workers are not at risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders or other health issues related to prolonged use of display screen equipment.

Based on the results of the assessment, recommendations may be made to adjust the workstation setup or provide ergonomic equipment, such as a height-adjustable desk or an ergonomic chair.

Post-operative physiotherapy is a type of rehabilitation that is designed to help patients recover after surgery. The goal of post-operative physiotherapy is to improve the patient’s range of motion, strength, and overall function. The type and duration of post-operative physiotherapy will depend on the type of surgery that was performed and the patient’s individual needs. We work closely with the surgeons ensuring we following correct protocols to firstly manage pain an swelling, followed by restoration of range of movement, strength and function.
